Heranças de familia

Erin Endicott ( New Jersey) é um artista têxtil que utiliza  tecidos e bordados antigos já usados para redesenhar as suas peças, evocando a história passada de cada uma. Para Erin, o acto de reparar,  de "trabalhar através de",  envolve mostrar as”feridas” e exercer sobre elas um quase cerimonial simbólico de cura, num processo lento e emocional de revitalização destes objectos que constituem a sua herança familiar. Numa atitude de apropriação contemporânea, pinta com corantes naturais e recupera bordando as manchas e buracos, mapeando iconograficamente a vida dos seus trabalhos.

Erin explica  o seu processo:

Antique fabrics, clothing and linens
My dowry passed down through generations
My history woven into this cloth
A fine cotton tablecloth
Lovingly mended by my great-grandmother
Becomes a little girl’s dress
Delicate cloth
Beautifully worn and threadbare
Stained by an artist’s hand
Walnut ink flowing into complex organic shapes
Subtleties of value, depth
Bringing the wound to life
Lost in the meditation of stitching

Ed Bing Lee - esculturas de linhas

 Desde a década de 70 Ed Bing Lee se dedica a estas esculturas de linhas. Uma tecelagem inspirada em formas orgânicas e também na arte pop, onde cada fracção de cor ou ponto tecido se une a outros gerando formas e significados distintos que muitas vezes só têm sentido em conjunto. Filho de uma costureira chinesa, conta que desde criança que está habituado a este universo de linhas e agulhas. Seu design envolve uma gama inusitada de materiais, como fitas de embalagem de presente e sacos plásticos velhos - além das linhas e tecidos comuns à técnica.  

 

 

Fazer do objecto comum um achado

Severija Incirauskaite é uma artista têxtil lituana que borda a ponto de cruz  objectos metálicos  do quotidiano  

Sobre o seu trabalho a artista diz:

“In my work, I take pleasure in things that are only insignificant details to most people. An ordinary human being and mundane fragments of his or her life acquire an exceptionally important meaning in my works; meanwhile, recognised icons of beauty are less important to me. A banal understanding of beauty and utilitarian things: these are the objects that interest me and inspire creation. Therefore, I use fragments of popular culture, the so-called kitsch, in my art. When they appear in a new context, like some kind of ‘quotations,’ they help to create works that reveal my personal experience and point of view.”

Design consciente

Gulnur Özdağlar (arquitecta e designer) pensa que a solução real a nível da recuperação dos lixos civilizacionais é o"upcycling" em vez de reciclagem simples. Seu objectivo é substituir com valor-trabalho e arte as características que o material perde durante a transformação, obtendo assim um produto de maior valor. Desde 2008  tem vindo a produzir acessórios de decoração,  copos,  jóias,   através da reciclagem de garrafas PET.  Ela recolhe,   aquece, recorta,  derrete,  fura e remodela garrafas.Desta forma, ela oferece sua própria resposta pessoal ao problema da reciclagem.

 

 

Histórias de papel

Nos trabalhos da artista britânica Su Blackwell os livros parecem ganhar vida. Nas lojas de livros usados  procura textos que a inspirem - romances,  contos de fadas, de botânica, etc. - e depois recorta delicadamente as páginas numa escultura de papel  que parece crescer a partir do livro. Com imaginação literária transforma-os em obras tridimensionais e faz as histórias brotar de literalmente dos seus livros.

 Su Blackwell diz das suas criações:

It is the delicacy, the slight feeling of claustrophobia, as if these characters, the landscape have been trapped inside the book all this time and are now suddenly released. A number of the compositions have an urgency about them, the choices made for the cut-out people from the illustrations seem to lean towards people on their way somewhere, about to discover something, or perhaps escaping from something. And the landscapes speak of a bleak mystery, a rising, an awareness of the air."

 

 

Noticias bordadas de Lauren DiCioccio

A artista Lauren DiCioccio utiliza bases surpreendentes para a sua arte de bordar. Trabalha nomeadamente sobre suportes de comunicação produzidos em massa, como jornais e sacos plásticos. A série de jornais por exemplo, é envolta em musselina de algodão bordada à mão, em cima das imagens. O resultado é uma bela obra de arte.

 

 

 

"As news-gathering departs from paper form and is conveyed instead through the television and internet, the newspaper becomes a nostaligic and old-fashioned object. I describe the beauty of the ritual experience of newspaper-reading by describing the paper as a tactile and fragile object in the language of craft. The pieces in this series are entire issues of The New York Times encased in hand-embroidered cotton muslin. I select a photograph from the paper; usually a strong image suggestive of power, leadership or communication; and embroider the image onto the fabric, applying colors in a painterly way and layering line and thread. Portions of the image remain as outline and threads tangle and unravel from the fabric." -Lauren DiCioccio
